Why GVE is important for Impact Management

We are not on course to achieve the SDGs

As such we need:

  • A broader definition of value
  • A better way of making decisions
  • More power transferred to those who are affected by decisions
  • Greater accountability for our decisions and their consequences
  • Ultimately, a change to the way society accounts for value

The Principles of Social Value

The Principles of Social Value

The Principles of Social Value provide a framework that guides how and why we measure social value. This is much more than producing reports. They ensure that the voice of stakeholders informs decision-making (increasing accountability), that you can compare performance against expectations and that you can be responsive to the insights from the evidence collected.

The Principles all need to be applied. You cannot select some and not others.

The Principles guide you to do what you are already doing – making decisions as well as increased or optimise social value and manage any risks.

GVE will help you to implement the Principles of Social Value by providing you with access to free, open source data from various sources so that you can quickly learn from others and support your datasets so that you can understand what changes and value the things that matter. GVE follows the logic of the eight Principles and therefore usage will help you to meet industry standards setting you on the right track to good quality impact management.

The Impact management Cycle

Impact Management Cycle

GVE can be used at every stage of the impact management cycle:

  1. Use outcomes and indicator data to triangulate with your own findings when planning or evaluating projects or activities
  2. Draw on the indicators that have been used by other practitioners to save you time and cross check with your work
  3. Identify valuations that have been used for particular outcomes to compliment your own methods
  4. Draw on the datasets to support your conclusions and recommendations
